The start of the road

Rather than starting this story with an extensive analysis about my life so far, its really only going to cover general terms and issues. I find that because I haven’t lived for that long, there is really no point in writing an autobiography that only covers 18 years. I mean, a true autobiography can only be written once a person has experienced it all. I haven’t yet achieved that, so instead, I’ll stay back and write about all the things that happen regularly around this wonderful world we live in.
I’ve had quite a number of people approach me about getting into writing and all that stuff, but to be honest, I never really found it the kind of thing I’d want to do all my life. That was a few years ago and obviously, times have changed. So as I write this book, I’d like to thank those people who first advised me that I should write as they are the ones to have inspired me to write this book. If I had to pick any kind of books to read, it’d definitely be of the crime/thriller genre. I’m fascinated by the lengths in which offenders go to hide their trail, the way police use every trick in the book to catch the thief. I think that is what makes a good story, one that constantly has you twisting and turning and leaving you hanging at the end of a chapter. It encourages you to keep on reading until you find out what happens. I believe that books like that, are the ones that really catch the attention of everyone, even those who don’t read crime/thriller novels. Maybe even in some cases, those who don’t read at all. I think its also important to note that in these days, opinions count regardless of who you are? I myself am quite opinionated when it comes to certain things but I mean who isn’t? Everyone is entitled to having a say because it is what they believe. No opinion is wrong and opinions can collectively form into more than just an opinion. With enough of the same opinion, people start to think that this may actually be true. This is how many of the biggest things today started. Did you know that many people were of the belief that American presidents deserved their own parliamentary retreat. This opinion became so popular that it became reality and since then, American presidents have had an external retreat. It just goes to show that opinions can be just as strong as anything else that is said.
A lot of people probably think that a book would start with an introduction about myself. Now I did think of doing that but books that do that tend to drag on about things that don’t really become relevant at any point in time. Most books that start with talk of a person tend to flow irregularly and that really isn’t a good thing as it turns readers off. So I started with a bit of optimism, a bit of randomness, just something to grab your attention straight away. You all have your own opinion.
My name is Ricardo Henrique Goncalves Ascenso. Certainly hard to grasp if you aren’t from a Western European background. Although my name does happen to be Ricardo, I certainly don’t mind being called Ricky or Ric or just something that’s associated with my name. I take great pride in being of the nationality that I am as it who I am, it is who I represent, its who I stand up for. Just because I may have been born in Australia, it doesn’t mean that I lose the Portuguese heritage that I am so fondly proud of. Many people have dual countries that they represent and to me, if that’s the case, each country has their personal significance of both you and your life. I enjoy the arts, but more the side of journalism, news, current affairs etc. Its just fascinating to see the ways in which stories are put together, the way in which they are presented and the way in which the audience interprets them. I’m also quite interested in the art of sport. Cricket, basketball, soccer, NRL, AFL, Rugby, Tennis, you name it and I’ll most likely be interested in it. Its just an instinctive knowledge that I have of these sports after watching so many sporting events that have changed the world. Even those that occurred before I was born are ones that I’ll always remember. Sport just has a way of grabbing your attention when something big happens regardless of what sport it is. Out of everything there is to do in the world, they would have to be the two areas that I take the most pride in, the two areas that fascinate me to the point where I not only watch them but look at them and learn what they do, how they do it? Why they do it? What makes them do it? I constantly ask myself these questions as I view the news and sports. Conversation is important to me. Anyone that can start a good conversation about anything at all definitely rates highly in books. A conversation is the best place to start about anything and regardless of the different opinions that two people might hold, I enjoy having debates with people about all topics ranging from sport to politics. I often find myself having several hour long conversations at a time. I’d like to think that I have good general knowledge about any known facts on any topic and that I have intellectual smartness but its hard to assess yourself on whether or not this is the case.
Overall, I am wondering as to whether I should include events that have happened in my past as they may have some significant bearing on the story down the track regardless of the shape that they take. It’s a bit of a difficult decision to make really but I will think about it. You could probably learn many things about me that you didn’t know about me should I include it
